This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of the American Cancer Society. I'm excited to share my experiences and celebrate the 100th Birthday of the American Cancer Society with this post. As always, my opinions are my own.
The American Cancer Society turns 100 years old this month! Did you know that the American Cancer Society has played a role in nearly every cancer research breakthrough in recent history? Or that the work done by the American Cancer Society has helped lead to a 50 percent drop in smoking since the 1960s, which has contributed to a drop in overall lung cancer death rates? No? Well now we both do...Truthfully, I didn't even know these facts and my stepmom (and I only use 'step' to show that I am not at risk because of blood relation; she is my mom in every other way) a breast cancer survivor.
After she was diagnosed she went through treatment and I worried that this once strong, vibrant individual would never be the same or worse, that the treatment wouldn't work. After a long battle she is now in remission and just as amazing as ever. After she'd battled her own cancer she found out her mother was fighting the same battle. These two wonderful women fought cancer and are survivors- we're so lucky to have them here with us today. My kiddos are blessed to have the opportunity to grow up knowing their grandma or 'G-Ma' as she's often called. We also recognize others aren't always as lucky as our family is.
For it's 100 birthday the American Cancer Society plans to celebrate by continuing to ensure lifesaving cancer research gets funded, making sure that people facing cancer have the help they need, like a free place to stay during treatment and a ride to get there and fighting for everyone to have access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air and more.
I know most of us at least know someone who's been affected by cancer, even if you're lucky enough to not have it touch very closely to home. I encourage you to find out more about the work the American Cancer Society is doing- it really is inspirational.
