DIY Monster Boogers (Aka Gak, Goo or Slime)

Pinterest is my friend.  Well, my frenemy (I had to look up the spelling to that 'word').  I love it but sometimes it's crafty, cleaning, cooking smugness gets to me.  Why oh why can't I make my kids 'Stop a temper tantrum with 3 easy steps' or get my 'House Deep Cleaned in Less than 30 Minutes'?!  After a while it starts to get to you, but I digress.

I saw this gooey slime all over Pinterest last summer.  I remember having Gak as a kid- it was short lived but really fun.  Back then, though, no one made their own (at least that I knew of) instead we begged our parents to fork out the $8 for a small container of the stuff that would inevitably get all over the house and squished into the carpet...again, I digress.

When I saw this Gak all over Pinterest I was intrigued.  It looked like an easy 'craft' to do with my son and his cousin.  Each pin I saw had slightly different measurements and ingredients but I used what we had and it turned out perfect.

What you will need:
1 tsp Borax
1 1/4 cup water (separated- many recipes I found had 1 and 1/2 cup water- I found it too runny)
1/2 cup Glue 4oz; usually half a bottle (we used white but clear makes the color super vibrant)
Food Coloring (we went with classic green)

In one bowl or cup mix the borax with 1 cup of water until dissolved.
In another bowl mix left over water and glue.  Add a few drops of food coloring to this mixture.
Now you'll take your borax mixture and slowly mix it into the glue mixture; they will start to solidify.  We needed to get our hands dirty for that part and just got to mixing/playing right away.  If you need to you can pour out excess water and keep mixing/kneading until firm.  Store in an airtight container.

K decided this was 'Monster Boogers' and got a huge kick out of while we made it.  Then later he wanted nothing to do with it and seemed a little scared.  I think the texture weirded him out and then he psyched himself out calling it something as icky as Monster Boogers.  He's since become tolerant of the gooey gunk but still isn't so sure.
